The criteria
You are likely to be eligible if:
- You are over 18 and live in the UK
- You own the vehicle you want to borrow against
- The vehicle has no finance outstanding
- It is in good mechanical and cosmetic order, with valid tax, MOT and insurance
- You have a regular income and can comfortably afford the repayments
We also look at your personal circumstances to make sure the loan is affordable, whatever your vehicle is worth. You can borrow from £1,000 to £50,000, and up to 80% of your vehicle's value, subject to vehicle, credit and affordability checks.
We may not be able to lend if:
- There is still finance outstanding on the vehicle
- You cannot yet show that you own the vehicle, or you are missing some of the right documents
- You already have a logbook loan on the vehicle, because we allow one at a time
- The repayments would not be affordable for you
Bad credit? Read this.
You may still be able to borrow. We decide on the value of your vehicle and whether you can afford the repayments, not on your credit score alone. Every application is looked at on its own merits, and we know not everyone has a perfect credit history.
Eligibility questions
Can I apply if the V5C logbook is not in my name?
Yes, as long as you can show that you are the owner of the vehicle.
Can I apply if I receive benefits?
Yes. If you meet the criteria and can comfortably afford the repayments, we will consider your application.
I have just started a new job. Can I still apply?
Yes. If your new income is not showing on your bank statements yet, we will usually ask for a copy of your contract of employment.
Will checking my eligibility affect my credit score?
No. We run a soft credit search with TransUnion, which does not affect your credit score.
What if my application is unsuccessful?
Usually it is because the vehicle does not meet our criteria yet, for example you are not yet the owner or some documents are missing. You are welcome to apply again when that changes. With your permission, we can pass your details to one of our trusted partners, who may be able to offer you an alternative loan.
Borrow responsibly. We only lend when the repayments are affordable for you. Our service is not advised, so if money is a worry you can get free, impartial help from MoneyHelper, StepChange or Citizens Advice.
Before you apply.
- Your vehicle registration and approximate mileage
- Your contact and employment details, and your monthly spending
- Access to your online banking, to share 60 days of statements through Open Banking
- Your bank details for the payout and a debit card for your repayments
